I have a 74 TR6.  I am having rear axle issues. On the right side I have a slight dragging type noise and when I jack the wheel up off the ground I get a slight back and forth wobble.

I believe that the hub bearing is starting to go.

I wanted to know if any club TR owners have gone through the hub bearing replacement.

Hello Jerry, I just noticed your entry to the CCBCC forum about your rear hub issues. I had a bad rear hub on my 71 TR6 which I finally addressed in July of 2018.

I purchased the complete hub assembly from the Roadster factory. (From everything I've read, replacing the bearing alone is a very difficult task). I purchased TRF's P/N HP243 and paid $350 for it. When It arrived it was easy to see that the beautifully machined assembly was manufactured in eastern PA by Good Parts. Refer to this link: Rear Hub Assembly, Heavy Duty, for Original Axle, TR4A – TR6 | Good Parts

The current price on the Good Parts website appears to be $349. Attached is a scan of the installation instructions that came with the assembly and a page from the Triumph shop manual.

I also found a very detailed account of a hub replacement by a member of the Central PA Triumph Club. Here's a link:

If for some reason the link doesn't work, let me know and I can scan it and send you a PDF. It's 4 pages long with lots of photos but a helpful article.

As it turns out I did not install the new hub assembly myself as I was, at the time, in need of replacing another hub of sorts ... my left hip. I took the TR6 to Steve at De Car Classics in Orleans (508-240-0333). He quoted it as a 2 hour job and charged me $200. Money well spent at the time.

If you have any questions let me know.

Looks like my earlier posting did not load well on to the forum.

Here's my reply in a word file, attached.

Thanks, Bill for rear axle information.

I did send mine toi CA to be rebuilt. All installed now, but need a test drive.

    Hello Jerry,

happy to hear that you're all set. Be patient ... warmer days are coming for your test drive.

May I ask what it costs for a rebuild and how long it took?
