President’s Boot- February 2012

I like fresh starts, the first of things; they always seem so hopeful and full of possibilities. The Holidays, parties and polar plunges are behind us now (except for Valentine’s Day, don’t forget it guys) and some realities have set in, like paying down the holiday bills and trying to lose those extra pounds, etc. Most resolutions are already broken so you don’t have to worry about them anymore. There are very positive realities too, like having the early months of the winter to spend time planning and bringing the LBC up to snuff and ready for the upcoming driving season. You can take your time taking things apart, sending them out for repair and not feel hurried to get it all back together. Take the time to clean things up a bit so it shines and works like a new car come spring. It is a great opportunity to have a Tech Session, have a little company while you put things back to right. Tech Sessions are a shared experience, offering a bit of learning as well as the warmth of a friendly gathering. Sometimes even the car gets fixed! Think about holding one and post it on the Forum so we can all come, it will feel like a good thing.

Our usual February activity, Winterfest, will not be in February this year; it will slip to March 10th and become “Motor Madness”. This is still a good time to hold an activity to break up the long winter. All of the details have not been worked out as of this writing, but it will be held at the Radisson Plymouth Harbor with the usual good amenities of food and lodging. I gather we will feature a Yankee Swap again but maybe with a new twist, and I have heard something about a car rally, a really small car rally! It will be a time focused on fun and a good evening among friends and club members rather than on cars and club stuff. So mark your calendars and sign up and let’s have a big turn out to make this a truly good event. Oh yeah, the club will help with the cost of the dinner, so rather than $35 each as last year, it will only be $20 for the same great quality dinner. Such a deal, so hurry and sign up!

The January meeting took some time to block out our yearly events so we can post them on our website calendar. We are always open to members that want to add an event and February is not too late to list it. You can contact me or Charlie Bohm with the details and we will happily put it on the calendar. I encourage each of you to go to the club’s home page and click on the events where you can review our activities as a list or as a calendar page. Getting into the habit of doing this will keep you informed of all our activities and you won’t forget and miss any of them.

Just a reminder; the nominating committee is working behind the scenes, seeking candidates for Officers and the BoG. They are preparing for the elections to be held at the May Annual Meeting. We are encouraging you to put your name in the hat for that election. You all have something to offer and this is your opportunity to get involved and do your part in steering this club in a positive direction. Give me a call and I’ll put your name in.

Well, I am looking ahead for a great new season, anticipating returning to some of our traditional events; The “A” Team and Safety Fast, etc., as well as some of our newer events such as Paws to Love, Marion Band Concert, Chatham’s 4th of July Parade celebrating 300 years and other events yet undiscovered that will be added to the roster by you, our members.

Till then,

Bill Scott
