President’s Boot-   August 2011

The lazy hazy days of August, just take it easy and savor the hot summer days,… don’t I wish!!! There are all these upcoming events and things to do. Our big club event, the British Legends Weekend, is fast approaching and we have plenty of planning, web pages and volunteer signups in preparation so that we will be ready for another successful BLW event Oct 7-9. Much of the ground work has already been put into action with permits and tents etc., and Paul and the web page team have been working to get the BLW pages up front and center on our home page. They have made it so easy, well even I can do it, so there is no excuse for you not to check in on the home page and among other things, sign up to volunteer on the duty roster. Here’s how; www.capecodbritishcarclub.org  and then if not already there, click “Home”.  Directly under the photo header of happy club members is a dark blue bar, in the center of the bar is a heading “British Legends Weekend”, place your pointer on it and a list of 6 choices drop down; Registration, events, car classes, show rules, DUTY ROSTER and lodging. I am encouraging you to click on all 6 to learn all about the event and register, but most certainly I want you to click on the “Duty Roster” and decide to volunteer to work on any one of the “duties” that you see listed there. Make a note of the ones you want to help with and then send an e-mail to our working from home computer POC of the BLW, Paul Hinchcliffe, so that he will put your name on those activities. His email (just to make it easy for you) is; phinchcliffe@comcast.net. Paul is just sitting there waiting for your e-mail saying that you want to be a part of this great team of BLW volunteers. Please do this and be signed up to help support and be involved with this important event.

I mentioned there were 6 pages, all helping you learn about and register for this event, and one in particular is lodging. Green Harbor has once again agreed to block out some rooms at a special event rate so that it is convenient to come to the Meet & Greet and stay, have your car right there near all the activities for the week end. Remember this is Columbus Day weekend which for a resort operator should be a three day weekend, so I want to encourage as many members possible to reserve a room at Green Harbor and for those who can make it a full weekend, a leisurely drive home on Monday, sign up for Sunday night. It is important not only to support local establishments, but support places such as Green Harbor who has continued to support our activity as well. Please book those rooms soon, as they will go fast. Don’t miss out on all the fun staying with other members at Green Harbor.

Another important action during the past month is that the BoG confirmed that the Club will officially file as a 501 (c) (7) Organizational (social club). The paper work is currently being filed to properly register our standing with both the state and the IRS for tax purposes. After some research, it was clear that our club does not meet the requirement for us to have filed as a 501 (c) (3) charitable club. As a social club, tax write offs for donations to the club will not be possible. We can still contribute to charities and scholarships as we decide to support with available funds from the club.

Kathy Rocha is chairing the scholarship committee, who is working on boosting our scholarship efforts for the coming years. They are looking at our requirements on issuing scholarship, the follow up and the expectation of the club in offering these scholarships. I applaud Kathy and this committee for the important work they are doing for the club and the local community.

As usual, check out the home page for the listing of future events. Remember you can view it as a list or by calendar page, just click the method of choice.

Till then,

Bill Scott,

President,

CCBCC
