Sent an email to the Vermont DOT to check out the current conditions on RT 100 up from Ludlow.  Here was their reply for anyone heading up that way:

    Good Morning,

The Granville portion of Route 100 was damaged during heavy rains this year. Although the road surface is better that it was you will still have some gravel surface along that section of the route.  Route 100 in Granville will have a culvert replacement project which will reduce traffic to 1 lane.  The good news is that paving on Route 100 between Waitsfield and Warren is just about done and the surface is great.

You will have no other problems on the road to Stowe.

    Hey Ken,

Thanks for the info.  I think we'll still go RT 100 as the route is worth a slight delay in Granville.  Also, Jackie and I plan to take a slight detour on the way to cross the "new" Bartonsville covered bridge in Rockingham VT (just north of Bellows Falls, right off RT 103). You may remember the viral video of Tropical Storm Irene destroying the old bridge in August 2011, and depositing it a 1/2 mile down river. The covered bridge was rebuilt and reopened earlier this year! The link below has the story:

    Cheers,

    Rick
